Officially Holiday Time
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments
So it’s 4 days before I go all the way home to Colorado for the first Holiday of the Holiday season, Thanksgiving! And I couldn’t be more excited! This year has been full of many blessings for my family- my parents have celebrated their 25th anniversary, my sister and her boyfriend of almost 8 years are engaged and my brother and sister-in-law had their first baby in August, which resulted in my first niece.
Therefore, this year the holidays mean even more. I’m not going home just for Thanksgiving, but to go bridesmaid dress shopping and to cake tastings and wedding gown fittings. I’m going home for Christmas to see for the first time my baby neice and to congratulate in person my brother and sister-in-law.
Going to school in Alabama, with my parents and sister in Colorado and my brother in Rhode Island, I miss a lot of big things in life- so when we all come together for the Holiday season it means that much more to me to celebrate not only my family, but the life that I have been blessed with with them.
Along with wedding stuff over the break I am getting to go to Broncos game and stand on the sidelines during the game- thanks to my amazing dad and his field passes! I also know I’ll be hitting the slopes to go boarding with friends in the mountains. And of course, am looking forward to a White Thanksgiving, which is usually guaranteed each year along with our White Christmases. And of course I can’t forget my 115 pound golden retriever who is 3 years old and thinks he is the size of a cat. And the other 15 year old one who is as sweet as can be. And of course my unsociable cat along with her brother, the devil cat.
(I know this is a photo of us on the beach, but to the left is my sister, my mom and then me and our golden retrievers. I can’t wait to see them all!)
It’s also my Senior year, and maybe the last year for all of my friends to return home for Thanksgiving and Christmas “breaks.” Every year during school breaks we have a “cheer reunion” of the “7 Seniors” so we can all catch up again. The 7 of us are spread out all over the country when we went off to college and luckily all of our families have remained in Colorado- so we all return to the same place for breaks. But soon we will all move to our own cities when we graduate and I doubt we will be back in Colorado at the same times, unless of course it is a holiday- which will probably be shorter than our school 4 week break and therefore we won;t get to see each other as much.
Needless to say I am taking these holiday breaks, and actually this whole last year of school, to heart and making every minute, every second the most it can be.
Happy Holidays and SAFE TRAVELS!
Final Projects.. Really?
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments
I knew it was coming all along throughout the semester, but really? Can our teachers please add more final projects to us?
I have four classes with final projects, all which were introduced and given to us within the past week and all that are over a span of the last weeks of class with increments of the projects due at around the same times.
I like doing projects and all, but along with other homework and extra curricular activities my stress level is about the highest it has ever been right now. I hope our teachers understand that we are trying our very best to give our 100%, but really? Ugh - I’m so so ready for Thanksgiving break.
And I would also like to say that I agree with Brittney- I will cry if I see a stray dog or beaten animal, but put me in NYC and I walk past all the homeless people and I may be sad, but I won’t cry.
Animals are so helpless and I understand children are too- but I don’t know animals just pull at my heartstrings.
Don’t Vote!..

Ok, not really- GO VOTE.
But this video gets out a really important message: Only 537 people decided last election, so your one vote really does matter.
Being from Colorado, my dad helped me register and push to read all the info about each candidate and their platforms. I voted last week with my absentee ballot and I’ve been able to say for a week now, as a proud citizen I voted! For the first time ever, too!
Although, I am a little jealous that I didn’t actually get to go into a booth and vote, and I don’t have a sticker to show it. But, for the most part, I am happy about my decision to vote and who I voted for and I know that I had a part in my future and our country’s future. So.. do the same- go out and vote today!
It’s Halloween Week?

I must say, I have a case of the Mondays and I can’t even begin to think what I am doing this weekend, or much less that Friday is Halloween.
But, good thing I already got my halloween costume all together so I don’t have to worry about it later.
I completed my costume by buying a purple tutu this weekend. If I gave any of my friends one guess what I was going to be they would probably get it right. Actually, they’d probably say princess first, and then I’d say no and tell them to keep thinking Disney and they’d get it.
Hannah Montana.
I mean, c’mon doesn’t everyone want to walk around in a sequin dress with long blonde hair and a microphone and air guitar? Yea, I’m pretty sure, yes.
And I am so excited.
On that note- I saw High School Musical 3 this weekend and I’d say it’s the best one of the three, no question. Honestly, it reminded me how it’s my senior year too, and sooner than later I will also be graduating and saying goodbye to some amazing friends and an even better place. But, I really don’t want to talk about that right now.. not even think about it.. As for now, I’m living in the moment and that means Hannah Montana for Halloween! Woo!
Is Powerade not a drink?
Monday, October 20th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Every Wednesday I am fortunate to work out in the weight room in the basement of the coliseum for my P.E. class. Each week I walk past the training room for some of our finest Auburn athletes.
There is a sign outside of the room, on the door, that says “No Drinks or Food” and right underneath that row of words, on the same sign, it says, “No Powerade.”
Now I don’t know exactly who we are sponsored by, whether it’s Powerade or Gatorade, but is that a stab at Powerade, saying Powerade isn’t OK, but Gatorade is? Or is it, even though we are sponsored by Powerade, you still can’t have it in here.
Anyway- last time I checked, I drink Powerade, although I prefer Gatorade, which I’m pretty sure makes it a drink.
Omit Needless Words.
No drinks or food.
I wish I was 10 again..

So I spent the weekend at my boyfriend’s parents’ house in Atlanta and I must say it was a good break away from drunken tailgaters.
My boyfriend is the oldest of 6, the youngest being 6 years old. Everytime we go back I get to fight a 6 year old for what game we are going to play or the 11 year old for who is going to have shut gun.
In my family, I’m the youngest. Not only in my immediate family but among all of my cousins. So for me to have to suck it up and be the oldest of 7 (I’m older than Mike by 7 months) is a little tough.
We went to Light the Night, a Leukemia/Cancer walk at Centennial Park in Atlanta and we got to carry light-up balloons. Last year, there weren’t enough balloons and only the 6 year old got to carry a balloon.
This year I was ready to fight for a balloon.. but I didn’t have to.. I actually got to carry two!
Amelia, the 11 year old, and I walked an hour together listening to “Love Story” on repeat and carrying our balloons.
I get to relive my childhood everytime I go home with Mike. From spending hours in the pool to 10 p.m. (not midnight) snacks and staying up “all night” (until midnight) watching movies on a Saturday night.
This weekend we even got to go to DixieLand and after riding rides, we played in the arcade and between the 11 year old and I we won over 1000 tickets off of $10! We both got matching Princess tiaras and wands…
It’s the little things in life with them. I miss it. So from now on.. instead of homework it is going to be coloring books and instead of dinner, it will be dessert first!
It’s OK to wear White Tonight
Monday, October 6th, 2008 | Greek Life | 1 Comment
Although it’s a fashion crime to wear white this time of year, expect girls to be breaking the rule in the next couple of weeks.
The eight weeks are coming to an end and sorority new members are turning into sisters.
Initiation is coming up and, it being my third year on the other side, I’m just as excited to initiate these women as I did my little sister, and grand little.
I’m excited to not only stand there, sing the right song and share the secrets of our sisterhood, but I am also able to relive, each year, the night when I was initiated and my real sister drove ten hours to surprise me.
If your getting initiated, congratulations for getting through the present-filled weeks and millions of swaps, and be excited to be able to call these girls your sisters forever.
For everyone else, be supportive, these girls have gone through recruitment to get the perfect sorority for them, and this is a big deal to finally be an official part of it.
Enjoy the flowers, candy and presents and make the most of your Sorority Life.
As I will soon be graduating in seven months, I am keeping my fingers crossed that my sorority network will be able to give me a hand in starting a career.
I know that these girls, as cheesy as it sounds, will be standing next to me at my candlelight crying, and my wedding laughing.
Welcome to a sisterhood, a bond, that will never be broken.
Be excited for the day when you are abroad and you see that girl with your letters across her shirt, and you can give her the secret handshake.
Cherish your initiation night and hold on to every memory you make the next four years.
Trust me, breaking the “no white after labor day” rule is well worth the outcome of the night.
